Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: What has just been shared is a summary of where the leadership of FBCC is at the present moment in regard to instrumental accompaniment and Sunday morning assemblies.

The leadership hopes the reader recognizes its sensitivity to and love for its present membership and its rich heritage (old traditionalism) in the Churches of Christ.

At the same time, it also is passionately committed to the proactive effort of reaching the unchurched of our culture,

meeting them on common ground and leading them to holy ground.

"Heritage" is the MANTRA that non-instrumental churches depend ONLY on traditionalism. However, if the entirety of secular history associates INSTRUMENTS with perverted paganism then the view held for most of 1800 years cannot be based on TRADITIONALISM.

Of course if you can convince people that it is just a matter of custom then it becomes easier to subvert people from the truth.

The HERITAGE of churches of Christ was the same as most protestants not connected with Catholicism.

The totality of the Bible and all of history is that music cannot lead anyone onto Holy Ground. None of the Jews ever used INSTRUMENTS as a means of worship. They always created a great crashing noise while animals were slaughtered and burned.

The MUSICAL event of Hezekiah's plague stopping ceremony is separated from David's plague stopping ceremony by 328 years. And Hezekiah sees no similar event in between.

The leadership believes it would be a travesty

if we allowed any tradition to become a barrier to more people coming into relationship with Jesus Christ through FBCC.

Of Religious Worship and the Sabbath Day John Calvin wrote:

I. The light of nature showeth that there is a God, who hath lordship and sovereignty over all, is good, and doth good unto all, and is therefore to be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted in, and served, with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the might.

But the acceptable way of worshiping the true God is instituted by himself,
and so limited by his own revealed will,
that he may not be worshiped according to the imaginations and devices of men,
or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representation,

or any other way not prescribed in the Holy Scripture.

Congregational singing of the Inspired Text is a DIRECT COMMAND: dominant preachers is a tradition.

How could obeying the DIRECT COMMANDS of Paul and the practice of most churches throughout history BECOME A BARRIER between one and Jesus Christ.

Psalm 41 prophesied that Judas and team would attempt to use "playing instruments and making a joyful noise before the Lord" as a way to defeat Jesus Christ and to POLLUTE HIM.

The Musical Mourning Team who could do worship, funeral or wedding SOLD themselves and their bodies pretending that they could influence the gods. Jesus politely invited them out but when they MOCKED him like speaking in tongues He cast them out MORE OR LESS VIOLENTLY like dung. Jesus thought that Musical Worship Teams were a travesty!

"Matthew alone mentions the hired 'flute players'; beside them would be found the hired wailing women with hair streaming, beating their breasts and filling the air with loud moans and bursts of sobs... Paid mourners were professionals at the business, and the custom of having them in houses of mourning and at funerals dates far back, even beyond the times of Jeremiah (9:17), and is found among Jews and pagans alike.

Naturally, Jesus would order these people out and hush them; a deed such as he was about to do called for the decency and the dignity of silence." (Lenski, Matt. p. 375).

Jesus CAST THEM out "more or less violently." Why EXPERIMENT with Jesus Who promises to be with those meeting in HIS NAME?

"... they piped or fluted, imitating the flutes used in wedding processions, by either blowing little whistles they had made or merely whistling with their lips. They were determined that all the other children should forthwith join them by hopping and skipping in a procession as did those who followed the pipers at a wedding.

But the other children did not want to play this game, they refused to skip after the whistlers. So these complained and blamed them... They wanted to have it their way and acted in an ugly fashion when they could not." (Lenski, Matthew, p. 440)

"These Jews were like silly children. When God sent them the Baptist, they wanted to pipe and have everyone dance with them. When the Baptist refused to join them in such a game, they called him morose, intolerable, and turned from him aggrieved and disappointed." (Lenski, Matt., p. 442).

In Hebrew the same word can be translated as "blow the flute, pollute or prostitute." Why do you have to experiment with CRACK because society is used to CRACK?

"Like most religious reformers, Calvin relied on song by the people, and discourages musical instruments which he compared to childish toys which ought to be put away in manhood. So deeply did his teaching sink into the Genevans, that three years after his death they melted down the pipes of the organ in his church, to form flagons for the communion. And his principle were adopted widely in Britain." (W. T. Whitley, Congregational Hymn-Singing (London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd., 1933, p. 58).

In most cultures, those who didn't "put away" the childish things were male of female prostitutes as the words for both SINGING and PLAYING make clear in the Hebrew.

We can QUOTE most of the world's historical writers to warn that, by analogy, you don"t have to EXPERIMENT with jumping off tall buildings or try to MAKE THE SPIRIT COME with music: yep, that is even the message of the VINEYARD or LATTER RAIN charismatic worship. The Dead Sea Scroll translation shows that they used the warrior's musical instruments to attempt to defeat the LIVING WORD. Why not: the musical or noise making Levites were under the control of "the KING and the COMMANDERS OF THE ARMY and not the priests." They made this noise during the TYPICAL slaughter of Jesus but never in the Holy Place as a type of church of Christ.

MUSIC was the BARRIER between people and Lord Jesus Christ in numerous TYPES where music says: "We will not listen to the Word of God."

Jesus and Paul thought that belief or faith comes from hearing the WORDS of Christ in SONG and SERMON. You cannot produce FAITH in the youth by being FAITHLESS with the Word of God which universally condemns music as the MARK that "we will not listen to the Words of God: we will EXPERIMENT with finding the NEW truth for the new Postmodern age or post-Christendom age.

BUT, we have ALREADY been experimenting: this is the purpose driven cult's recommendation for INFILTRATING and DIVERTING so that you "at FIRST plan to deceive" following the Lynn Anderson or witchcraft "prayerful brinkmanship."

For a while now, our children's ministry and youth ministry has incorporated music with instrumental accompaniment

more and more in its own worship environments and efforts to edify and evangelize young people.

Therefore, we are NOT experimenting but taking the next and fatal step toward apostasy into the end-time Babylon Harlot who USED the YOUTH as musical worship teams. Where do you find that? Remember that Jude warned that God would come with ten thousands (great number) of His saints to judge the world. That happened first at Mount Sinai because of MUSICAL WORSHIP which was always IDOLATRY.

JUDE quotes Enoch and other writers which show that Satan as a FALLEN ANGEL had EXPERIMENTED with instrumental music to STEAL the worship from God. This is why he was cast out into the earth (or out of the true church) where as Lucifer he/she came equipped with musical instruments. As the serpent or NACHASH or the "musical seducer" he EXPERIMENTED with music on Eve, seduced her and sodomized Adam who went willingly.


Worship with music came from the pagan "gods." "There is no other tradition." What did Jude know (that we don't know) about the "Wandering Stars" and God coming with ten thousands of His host to execute Judgment?

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: The younger generations of believers in our church family are very much acclimated to worshiping God with instrumental accompaniment.

With an eye toward the future, the leadership wants to ensure that there will be a place for instrumental accompaniment in our corporate assemblies for the sake of a new generation of believers who are very accustomed to and edified by music with accompaniment.

Well, that is a TRAVESTY against common sense: worship to Paul meant to GIVE HEED to Christ by giving attention to His Words. He said that the circumsized worshiped God IN SPIRIT. That is the human spirit which is the ONLY place worship takes place.

Music DIVERTS the mind and PERVERTS the soul so tha it is utterly impossible to GIVE HEED to Christ and His Word while giving heed to the TEAM and their words. Now, that is a TRAVESTY.

Edify means to teach or instruct: Paul said that musical instruments SPEAK IN TONGUES. You CANNOT teach with instruments. This was one of the OLDEST pagan superstitions. Even David tried to AWAKEN his harp.

The HARP OF GOD is the human voice which is supernaturally constructed to be able to TEACH or EDIFY. Instrumental music always TEARS DOWN THE BODY and cannot build it up.

The ONLY evidence is that Satan (Lucifer, ZOE) seduced the youth into perverting and subverting the Holy Sethites with instruments. Jubal is Genun the descendant of Cain and the Cainites or Kenites who began subverting Israel even at Mount Sinai:

That is the way the MASTER would do it in all of history.

Although Genun's name suggests "Kenan," who appears in Genesis V:9 as the son of Enoch, he is a composite Kenite character: the invention of musical instruments being attributed in Genesis to Jubal, and of edged iron blades to his brother Tubal Cain.

Genun was said to occupy "the Land of the Slime Pits," namely the southern shores of the Dead Sea (Genesis 14:10), doubtless because the evil city of Sodom stood there (see 32:6).

The word HANDLE instruments means "without authority."

This writer declares that he is about to tell us how Satan was able to pry the righteous people of God off the holy mountain by first getting them to attend the Cainite "worship services" and finally get them down into the valley in a worship from which they could not--without divine help--ever extricate themselves so that they could return to God's presence.

"Where kithara playing and dancing and hand clapping find place, there is the beguiling of men, the corruption of women, the sorrow of angels and a feast for the devil... Today, to all appearances, they sing psalms as God ordained, and tomorrow they will eagerly dance as taught by Satan. Today they contradict Satan and tomorrow they follow him... Let it be far from you that today, as one loving Christ, you listen attentively to the reading of the divine Scripture, and tomorrow as a criminal and a hater of Christ you listen to lyre playing." (St. Ephraim, quoted by Green, p. 37-38).

In pronouncing his judgment upon Israel, Amos gave as one reason--

You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments. Amos 6:5

Culture has incorporated SEXUALITY and DRUGS and ALCOHOL as a produce of their music. No one doubts that most modern music destroys the power of people to exercise their rational minds.

The ancient pagans included both SEXUALITY and MUSIC even at the tower of Babylon. The MUSICIANS and a musical worship team of women was part of the MINISTRY. Why, because you can seduce people out of their money that way.

Prostitutes both male and female were on the MINISTRY TEAM. Why? Why to attract the money.

This went on in the Jerusalem temple. Why didn't Jesus decide to CONTINUE music and sexuality to ATTRACT the sinners? Because He is not a pagan but God Incarnate.


Paul spoke of MUSICAL worship in the culture of the Orphics and Dionysians. The only way not to SOW DISCORD was for "church" to be a school of the Bible and not a pagan worship center BOWING to either musical preference in Rome.

Some OTHER FAILED attempts to EXPERIMENT with MUSIC to replace the Word.

It also believes this third service would be an appropriate time to explore and experiment more thoroughly in regard to instrumental accompaniment in a worship assembly.

Experimenting, inventing or improvising is the TERMINAL SIN for those who ONCE believed the WORD and understood that church is where people are exposed to the WORDS OF GOD so that they might imbibe the HOLY SPIRIT and not an unholy spirit. Of the Israelites:

Experimenting was the TERMINAL SIN in the garden of Eden. See table above where total history TRUMPS those willing to EXPERIMENT in the face of a Holy Spirit God!

In explaining Pauls' Warning about DEMON WORSHIP in First Corinthians 10, Lenski notes that the DEMONS worshiped under the BULL CALF which was identical to the Egyptian MUSICAL IDOLATRY:

But something does exist, something that is far more terrible than these pseudo-gods, namely an entire kingdom of darkness which is hostile to God, a host of demons or fallen angels who are ruled by the greatest of their number, namely Satan, Eph. 2:3; 6:12.

Lucifer (Zoe) and the fallen angels brought instruments with them as they draw away angels by stealing worship for themselves.

Satan was LUCIFER or the harp-playing prostitute in the garden of Eden.

At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king's life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute: Isaiah 23:15NIV

Take up a harp, walk through the city, O prostitute forgotten; play the harp well, sing many a song, so that you will be remembered." Isa 23:16

The prostitute here is:

Zanah (h2181) zaw-naw'; a prim. root [highly fed and therefore wanton]; to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple fornication, rarely of involuntary ravishment); fig. to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah)...

The words for SING and PLAY INSTRUMENTS are all related to PROSTITUTION or polluting:

Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness. Lev 19:29

Chalal (h2490) khaw-lal'; (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane (a person... denom. (from 2485) to play (the flute)... take inheritance, pipe, player on instruments, pollute, (cast as) profane (self), prostitute, slay (slain), sorrow, stain, wound.

Therefore, to PLAY the prostitute and PLAY musical instruments speak of literal or spiritual ADULTERY.

Beyond the scope of this brief review, Eve being WHOLLY SEDUCED and Adam "going willingly" are related to prostitution and sodomy.

The SERPENT or NACHASH was a "musical enchanter" or the Fallen Angel.

He will be returned specifically

Experimenting was the terminal sin at Mount Sinai.

When the Jews attempted to force Jesus into this it was mocking Him playing a concert of instruments and trying to get him to lament for Bacchus and dance.

"Not to be overlooked here is the accompaniment of music and dancing which, with the character of the ensuing phenomena, makes the diagnosis (of idolatry) certain." (Schaff-Herzog, Ecstasy, p. 71).

19. But when Moses came down, he saw their heathenism revelling in the wide plain with drums and cymbals.

Comparing the musical worship of Israel to all of those nations whom Israel demanded to be like as they "fired" the God of righteousness and justice, Gurney notes of the successful movement of the ark by the king and his civil team after his musical move including the "congregation"--

"we recognize the same elements: the sacrifices and libation, the cultic feast in which the congregation gets a share of food and drink after it has been blessed by the king, and the merry-making, now in the form of instrumental and vocal music. But the central act of the ritual, which was performed by the king, is called literally 'drinking' the god (Gurney, O. R. Some Aspects of Hittite Religion, p. 33-34, Oxford University Press, 1977)

Theodoret (Quasten, Music & Worship, p. 65) claimed that the Jews brought liturgical music from Egypt and Philo wrote that "Moses learned rhythm, harmony, meter and everything concerned with instrumental music from the Egyptians." This is why Moses knew that the noise at Mount Sinai was not the sound of defeat or of victory. Rather, it was the "sound of them singing that I hear."

The Jews sang in the type of the Egyptian threnodies (elegies for the dead):

Thus they made a golden bull, the image of an animal that was held to be the most sacred in that land; they offered unholy sacrifices, performed impious dances and sang hymns which differed in no way from the pagan mourning songs. Philo, De specialibus legibus

[Jesus threw them out more or less violently]

"This reference probably indicates the use of songs from the cult of Osiris... it can hardly be denied that Egyptian influence on Jewish musical practices was quite significant. This would stand to reason because of the high quality of Egyptian cultic music. The tambourine or timbrel, a hoop of bells over which a white skin was stretched, came from Egypt. Miriam used this instrument to accompany the singing and dancing on the shores of the Red Sea (Ex. 15).

"The trumpet... was the signaling instrument of the Egyptian army. The name of the Sistrum (2 Sam 6:5) was mena'ane'im. It was the Egyptian kemken used in the cult of Isis.

The music during the transferring the Ark to Sion (David rose up to play)

and the dances of the women at the Shiloh (Judges 21:21), were similar to the Egyptian liturgy and parades.

"The triumphal hymn of Moses had unquestionably a religious character about it; but the employment of music in religious services, though idolatrous, is more distinctly marked in the festivities which attended the erection of the golden calf." (Smith's Bible Dictionary, Music, p. 589).

Gerhard Delling.

"In the New Testament there is nowhere any emphasis laid on the musical form of the hymns; and in particular none on instrumental accompaniment whereas this is significantly paganism." (Delling, Gerhard, Worship in the New Testament, trans. Percy Scott Phil. Westminster press, 1962, p. 86).

In 1964. the prestigious Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (edited by Kittel, Friedrich, and Bromiley) issued  from the press. The article which dealt with psallo was written by Gerhard Delling. Relative to Ephesians 5:19, Delling contended that the literal use of psallo, as "found in the LXX, is now employed figuratively" (Kittel, et al., p. 499).

In an abridgement of this work, published in 1985, Bromiley expressed it this way: ". . . psallontes does not now denote literally playing on a stringed instrument" (p. 1226).

b. Theological wordbooks, etc. It is important to notice that of the many articles by various authors in The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, every artic!e that so much as touches on the meaning of Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 consistently explains the passages simply in terms of "sing," "sing praises."

G. Delling wrote the articles on psallo and related words. Speaking at first of "singing and making melody," he says:

The expression adontes kat psallontes in v. 19b.underscores v. 19a. The combination of verbs in this order is found in the OT, Ps. 26:6; 56:8;104:2, 107:2. The literal sense "by or with the playing of strings, " still found in the LXX, is now employed figuratively (VIII, 498-99).
No translation ever translated psallo other than to SING.

"They sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. They practiced rites in which they made themselves naked, perhaps similar to those which were carried out by naked Babylonian priests." (Woodrow, p. 158).

John Chrysostom defined EXPERIMENTING as the MARK imposed at Mount Sinai BECAUSE OF musical worship of the same Satanic agent of experimenting:

"See how hard they were to tear away from the customs of Egypt! What sayest thou? What, not wait for him that brought thee out, but flee the benefit, and deny the Benefactor? And mark how insulting they are: "For as for this Moses," they say:-"which brought us out of the land of Egypt" nowhere the name of God: instead of that, they ascribed all to Moses.

Where they ought to give thanks (to God), they bring Moses forward: where it was, to do as the Law bade them, they no longer make account of Moses. "We know not what is become of him." And yet he told them that he was going up to receive the Law: and they had not patience to wait forty days. "Make us gods"-

The calf was one, yet they called it Gods: on which St. Chrys. remarks elsewhere, that they added polytheism to idolatry.-The next sentence may perhaps be completed thus: "that they did not even know that there is One God."-Edd. from E.F.D.

"So frantic are they, that they know not what they say." Note 7 in this document.

Of course, the worship of Apis under the golden calf was the worship of the Egyptian trinity of Osiris, Isis and Horus.

they did not say, "a God."-And yet one may well wonder at this, that they do not even know.-"And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifices unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands" (v. 41):

for which they ought to have hid their faces.

What wonder that ye know not Christ, seeing ye knew not Moses, and God Who was manifested by such wonders? But they not only knew Him not:

they also insulted in another way, by their idol making.

"Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven" (v. 42.)

Hence these same "customs" date their origin, hence the sacrifices:

they were themselves the first that made sacrifices to their idols! For that is why it is marked,

Being turned over to paganism and legalism was the MARK stamped on them because of MUSICAL IDOLATRY.

Editor's Note 7: dia gar touto epishmainetai. The meaning is: Stephen was accused of speaking against "the customs,"-sacrifices, temple, feasts, etc. Therefore he significantly points to that critical conjuncture from which these "customs" date their introduction: namely, the Provocation at Horeb.

Prior to that, he tells of "living oracles," life-giving precepts:

after it, and as its consequence, sacrifices, etc.,

those statutes which were not good, and ordinances by which a man shall not live, as God says by Ezekiel.

Not a word of sacrifice till then: and the first mention is, of the sacrifices offered to the calf. In like manner, "they rejoiced," "the people ate and drank, and rose up to play:"

PLAY was MUSICAL IDOLATRY where all musical terms and names of instruments POINT to idolatry which was also marked by sodomy.

MUSICAL experimenting is both a CAUSE and a CONSEQUENCE of rejecting God's GRACE or His Words. Since MUSICAL IDOLATRY was their "prayer," Stephen says that God ABANDONED THEM to musical EXPERIMENTING.

The MUSICAL ATTEMPT to worship a Spirit God and the continuing MUSICAL WORSHIP was the MARK of the Beast who in this case was various forms of SATURN whose NAME had the number 666. Chrysostom agrees that MUSICAL FESTIVALS was the MARK OF THE BEAST or 666.

and in consequence of this,

the feasts were prescribed: kai eufrainonto, fhsin: dia touto kai eortai.-'Epishmainetai might be rendered, "he marks,"

"puts a mark upon it" (so the innovator, who substitutes, touto kai Dauid epishmainomenoj legei): we take it passively, "there is a mark set over it-it is emphatically denoted." In the active, the verb taken intransitively means

"to betoken or announce itself," "make its first appearance."-

In the Treatise adv. Judaeos, iv. §6. tom. i. 624. C. St. Chrysostom gives this account of the legal sacrifices: "To what purpose unto Me is the multitude of your sacrifices? etc. (Isaiah i., 11, ff.)

Do ye hear how it is most plainly declared, that

God did not from the first require these at your hands?

Had He required them, He would have obliged those famous saints who were before the Law to observe this practice.

Then wherefore has He permitted it now?

In condescension to your infirmity. As a physician in his treatment of a delirious patient, etc.:

thus did God likewise. For seeing them so frantic in their lust for sacrifices, that they were ready, unless they got them, to desert to idols:

nay not only ready, but that they had already deserted, thereupon He permitted sacrifices. And that this is the reason, is clear from the order of events.

After the feast which they made to the demons, then it was that He permitted sacrifices: all but saying: `Ye are mad, and will needs sacrifice:

well then, at any rate sacrifice to Me. -(What follows may serve to illustrate the brief remark a little further on, Kai h aixmalwsia kathgoria thj kakiaj.)

The MUSICAL LEVITES made a great sound which EXCLUDED the people from the national animal sacrifices. This was God QUARANTINING the musical HOLOCAUSTS behind closed doors. See Alfred Edersheim's explanation.

"But even this, He did not permit to continue to the end, but by a most wise method, withdrew them from it ...

For He did not permit it to be done in any place of the whole world,

but in Jerusalem only.

Anon, when for a short time they had sacrificed,

he destroyed the city.

Had He openly said, Desist, they, such was their insane passion for sacrificing, would not readily have complied. But now perforce, the place being taken away, He secretly withdrew them from their frenzy." So here: "Even the captivity impeaches the wickedness (which was the cause of the permission of sacrifice.")

"They made a calf in Horeb, and offered sacrifices to the idol:" seeing that,

before this the name of sacrifice is nowhere mentioned,

but only lively ordinances, and "lively oracles.

And rejoiced"-that is the reason for the feasts. Exod. xxxii. 5, 6.) "As it is written in the Book of the Prophets"-and observe, he does not cite the text without a purpose, but shows by it that there is no need of sacrifices; saying: "Did ye offer slain beasts and sacrifice to Me?"-He lays an emphasis on this word (to Me?).

Editor's Note 8: Our passage here follows the lxx. which speaks of Moloch and Remphan. The terms in the original (vid. R. V.: Amos v. 25-27) are "Siccuth" and "Chiun." It is a disputed point whether these are in the prophecy names of divinities or whether they mean respectively "tabernacle" and "shrine" (or image). The difficulty lies in the ambiguity of the Hebrew text.

The name Moloch being akin to the Hebrew word for king (rlm), confusion might easily arise. The N. T. text varies from the lxx. only in adding the word proskunein (43) to lay emphasis upon the charge of idolatry, and in replacing Damascus by Babylon (43), an interpretation from the standpoint of subsequent history.

The statement of our text that the Israelites fell into the worship of these divinities in the wilderness rests upon extra-Pentateuchal tradition, derived, perhaps, from such prohibitions of Moloch-worship and similar idolatries as are found in Lev. xviii. 21, and Deut. xviii. 10.

The charge in the prophecy of Amos is a general one referring to the frequent lapses of the people into image-worship down to his own time.-G. B.S.

This was Saturn specifically worshiped in the Greek-Roman world and who gave his name to the Sabbath. The Sabbath had been under Judaism a day of solemn rest.

However, in Rome it was a day of wild entertainment. While Christians always met in assembly on the First Day of the week, the church outlawed the Sabbath paganism for Christians.

They EXPERIMENTED! What was the nature of the DEMONS they worshiped?

Demon: "It is used in the Septuagint, Deut. 32:17, to translate the Hebrew word which seems, originally, to have meant a supernatural being inferior to the gods proper, applied among the Assyrians to the bull deities which guarded the entrances to temples and palaces." (Vincent, p. 244)

"Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power? They send forth their children as a flock; their little ones dance about. They sing to the music of tambourine and harp; they make merry to the sound of the flute. They spend their years in prosperity and go down to the grave in peace.

Yet they say to God, 'Leave us alone! We have no desire to know your ways. Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What would we gain by praying to him?' -- Job 21:7, 11-15

"Paul, however, fixes attention on the feast which was entirely after the manner of idol worship.
By doing this Paul strikes home directly at the Corinthians who thought that they, too,
could preserve their relation to Jehovah while, pretending to make use of their liberty,
they ate, drank, and amused themselves at idol celebrations.
This very thing the Israelites of old attempted when they feasted upon the offerings brought to the golden calf and then rose up 'to play,' to dance and to have a gay time after the fashion they had learned from the idolatrous Egyptians." (Lenski, 1 Cor., p. 397-398).

"It is a great mistake to imagine that back of their idolatry and their idol sacrifices there is nothing but an empty vacuity. True enough, as 8:4 makes plain, the gods of the idols have no existence whatever; no being by the name of Jupiter exists, and this is true with respect to all other gods.

But something does exist, something that is far more terrible than these pseudo-gods, namely an entire kingdom of darkness which is hostile to God, a host of demons or fallen angels who are ruled by the greatest of their number, namely Satan, Eph. 2:3; 6:12.

All altars, all sacrifices, and all worship that are not intended to serve the true God are thus actually though not necessarily consciously and intentionally devoted to these demons... Hence all idol sacrifices, whatever the pagan ideas concerning them may be, are really sacrifices unto devils." (Lenski, on 1 Cor. p. 415).

Because of this MUSICAL IDOLATRY God MARKED those who EXPERIMENTED or substituted for the WORD of God.

"For a while in the Middle Ages, the bishops banned the use of brass instruments in churches because they were brash and produced what was perceived as " Devil tones " and "Satan's music ".

This proscription was intended to sever the link with all ancient, Old Testament forms of worship ritual and its associated Egyptian ritual.

However, it is interesting that, from the Reformation, secular music was almost totally dedicated to the use of brass instruments with composers like Purcell, Handel and Bach at the forefront of great choral and brass-dominated works.

The fact is that, today, both Church and State ceremonies inherit their musical traditions from the priestly ritual and military pomp of the early time-frame. Adrian Wagner

For the sons of Levi did not know whom they should slay, because those that worshipped were mingled with those that worshipped not.

But He, for Whom it was easy to distinguish, distinguished (MARKED) those who were defiled from those who were not defiled;

so that the innocent might give thanks that their innocence had not passed [unseen by] the Just One; and the guilty might be convicted that their offence had not escaped [the eye of] the Judge.

But the sons of Levi were the open avengers. Accordingly Moses set a mark upon the offenders, that it might be easy for the avengers to avenge.

For the draught of the calf entered those in whom the love of the calf was dwelling, and displayed in them a manifest sign, that the drawn sword might rush upon them. The congregation therefore which had committed fornication in [the worship of] the calf, he caused to drink of the water of ordeal, that the mark of adulteresses might appear in it.


When the ELDERS fired God and demanded a KING PASTOR, God warned them that this meant their SLAVERY and captivity under the kings. Because the new sacrifices were to be a LIKE THE NATION'S ritual, the laws were changed:

"Beginning with David and throughout the entire period of the monarchy, for about four centuries, Israel's worship on Zion gave a central place to the king, not simply as officiant but substantively, as the figure who in his office and person embodied the relationship between God and the nation.

In contrast, the premonarchic worship of Israel, at Shechem and elsewhere, had featured a Covenant between God and the people, through their tribal heads, as the bond in the relationship.

By taking over and adapting Jerusalem's ancient cult, David provided Israel with a new worship, one that featured his own status and its sacral significance. Britannica

David's Additions to the Law of Moses

"The covenant festival celebrated in the south was unique in some respects, owing to the profound changes brought about by the Davidic monarchy. It will be remembered that David, in order to support his regime with the religious sanctions of the Tribal Confederacy, had brought the Ark to his capital and planned to install it in a temple. David's plan, which was realized by Solomon, called for a reinterpretation of Yahweh's covenant with Israel. The royal court of Jerusalem advanced a new theology of king and temple, the substance of which was that Yahweh had elected the Davidic king as his 'son' and had elected Zion as his sanctuary, the place of his sacramental presence.

"The effect of this new theology, especially under Solomon's influence, was to modify Israel's worship. The covenant renewal festivals of the former Confederacy were transformed into fall New Year celebrations of the foundation of the Temple and the election of the Davidic house.

It was not until the great reformation of Josiah that the Mosaic covenant tradition was discovered." (Anderson, p. 519).

When DAVID could not go to GOD'S altar at Gibeon, God allowed him to sacrifice at Jerusalem a Jebusite High Place to stop the PLAGUE caused by David's own sins.

However, it was only as a provision for the LIKE THE NATIONS TEMPLE that David changed the LAWS and made the temple sacrifices into a STATE sacrifice for the king, officials and clergy: the people were excluded.

Therefore, DAVID IMPROVIZED OR EXPERIMENTED AFTER He was estranged from God at Gibeon. All of the evidence proves it.

Therefore, God through AMOS MUST BE BELIEVED when He said that Amos EXPERIMENTED with music:

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; Am.6:5

All scholars know that they EXPERIMENTED with music to produce a drug high but this was NOT the worship of Yehovah but Saturn (666) as Molech, Remphan, Chiun or other idols:

"they employed on their light, enervating unmeaning music, and if they were in earnest enough, justified their inventions by the example of David... The word can mean no other than devise. He introduced into the Temple-service the use of the stringed instruments, the kinnor, (the lyre) and the nebel (the harp) in addition to the cymbals.

Whence these, in contrast to the trumpets, are called the instruments of David." (Barnes, Albert, Amos, p. 308

"It is commonly used with abstract nouns as, devices, evil, vanity; but always in the meaning of 'devising,' 'inventing.'... It is used also of war-like machines." (Barnes, Albert, Amos, p. 308)

The PROPHETS experimented with Music (Amos 5, 6; Isaiah 5). "Prophesying was with Instrumental Music."

God predicted that the KINGS would take their youth and make them instrumentalists to RUN BEFORE HIS CHARIOTS. One of the first things David provided was:

Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service some of the sons of Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals; and the number of those who performed their service (hard bondage) was: 1 Chr.25:1

As a result, Ezekiel could look at the result of EXPERIMENTING or IMPROVIZING like David.

And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God. Ezek 13:9

Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall (experimented), and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter: Ezek 13:10

Shav (h7723) shawv; or 7775 shav; from the same as 7722 in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), lit. (ruin) or mor. (espec. guile); fig. idolatry (as false, subj.), uselessness (as deceptive, obj.; also adv. in vain): - false (-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity.

For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. Zec.10:2

Shavah (h7775) shav-aw'; fem. of 7773; a hallooing: - crying.

All pagans including Samaria and Judah believed that MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS were the idols or that the "gods" lived inside of them. When someone STRUCK the musical strings the "gods" from within spoke to the musician. The musical PROPHESIER could then peddle his message as a HIRELING.

Untempered is:

Taphel (h8602) taw-fale'; from an unused root mean. to smear; plaster (as gummy) or slime; (fig.) frivolity: - foolish things, unsavoury, untempered.

Tiphlah (h8604) tif-law'; from the same as 8602; frivolity: - folly, foolishly.

Taphaph (h8608) taw-faf'; a prim. root; to drum, i. e. play (as) on the tambourine: - taber, play with timbrels.

The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels. Ps.68:25

Both SINGING and PLAYING speaks of the PROSTITUTES and SODOMITES who plagued Jerusalem and most temple states.

And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. Exek 13:13

I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. Exek 13:14

Let's hear the plan to EXPERIMENT again.

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ The leadership believes it is time to launch a third worship assembly for the sake of making a proactive effort to make more space for more people to "park" - 'outside' and 'inside' FBCC.

It also believes this third service would be an appropriate time to explore and experiment more thoroughly in regard to instrumental accompaniment in a worship assembly.

No one in the Bible other than pagans "worshiped" with instrumental music: you CANNOT worship with the works of human hands.

The DIRECT COMMAND for the literate was to SPEAK INSPIRED TEXT without Mike Armour to interpret it for the poor Ukrainians. A Psalm is:

In the Greek world SYMPHONIA was something the perverted males and females did to entertain at FEASTS which, as among the Jews, was always religious:

vocal and instrumental music,
choral dancing,
rhythmic motions,
and various modes of harmony expressed in action,

perhaps most particularly that part of education which we should now classify as a striving for harmony (Kosmos unity) in life

> combined with aesthetic (art and human creativity),

v - in contrast with intellectual and physical branches of study and development.

> It was culture of the essential person, the ego or soul,

v - whereas the other two divisions care for and supply the needs of the mind and of the body.

The clergy would have PERVERTED Jesus if they had been able to PIPE to get Him to sing and dance the effeminate choral:

These choruses became more elaborate and more dramatic and eventually evolved into Greek tragic drama. Poetic texts were also sung by individuals, the most striking example being the epic poems of Homer, in which the singer accompanied himself on a lyre.

On the other hand, confirming that PSALLO in the Greek was not a "musical" term in the above sense.

Ancient Greek was a pitched language, so melody had to be an outgrowth of the natural inflections of the spoken language.

Greek vowels had long and short values that corresponded to long and short notes in the musical settings. Thus musical rhythms were derived from metric forms, and melodic movement was governed by the natural rise and fall of the text.

Ancient Greece appears never to have had a developed instrumental art. Britannica

Aristotle, Rhetoric" Melody Deceives "for instance "having gone and having conversed with him," or, "having gone, I conversed with him."Also the practice of Antimachus is useful,

that of describing a thing by the qualities it does not possess; thus, in speaking of the hill Teumessus, hesays,

"for in this way amplification may be carried on ad infinitum. This method may be applied to things good and bad, in whichever way it may be useful.

"Poets also make use of this in inventing words, as a melody "without strings" orâ "without the lyre"; for they employ epithets from negations, a course which is approved in proportional metaphors..

The form of diction should be neither metrical nor without rhythm.

If it is metrical, it lacks persuasiveness, for it appears artificial, and at the same time it distracts the hearer's attention, since it sets him on the watch for the recurrence of such and such a cadence..

Of the different rhythms the heroic is dignified, but lacking the harmony of ordinary conversation; the iambic is the language of the many, wherefore of all meters it is most used in common speech;

but speech should be dignified and calculated to rouse the hearer.

Paul spoke of the normal Greek MELODY as purely INTERNAL. However, the normal Greek was a pitched language and SPEAKING TO ONE ANOTHER would sound more like the cantillation of the Hebrew in a liturgical sense with NO MUSIC.

However, if Farmer's Branch wants to EXPERIMENT like the worshipers of Saturn (666) condemned in Amos and Isaiah based on the Greek language, then this is what the ELDERS have received in response to their PRAYERS:

Music with the Greeks, therefore, included, besides

But as to this Genun (Jubal), Satan came into him in his childhood.

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: Steven Polk, the worship minister, would lead this assembly. It would be a "blended" worship experience, with much of the worship time incorporating instrumental accompaniment, while still occasionally incorporating the a capella form.

The instruments used would vary from time to time but may include a guitar, a keyboard, a cello, electronic percussion (the volume level can be better regulated), and a bass guitar. They would often be used together, but may also be used individually depending upon the songs.

In the "old" Biblical churches of Christ the elders were the LEADERS of the congregation. Their job description is to STAND OVER the flock and Paul explicitely silenced the FEMALE component by using the word SILENCE which includes being SEDENTARY and by excluding AUTHENTIA as sexual authority "both erotic and murderous."

"But as to this Genun (Jubal), Satan came into him in his childhood; and he made sundry trumpets and horns, and string instruments, cymbals and psalteries, and lyres and harps, and flutes; and he played on them at all times and at ever hour. -- Second Adam and Eve 20:2

"And when he played on them, Satan came into them, so that from among them were heard beautiful and sweet sounds, that ravished (raped) the heart. Second Adam and Eve 20:3

"Then he gathered companies (teams) upon companies to play on them; and when they played, it pleased well the children of Cain, who inflamed themselves with sin among themselves, and burnt as with fire; while Satan inflamed their hearts, one with another, and increased lust among them. -- Second Adam and Eve 20:4

Percussion is a necessary component of inducing the feelings of SEXUALITY. It is not possible to reverence God in SILENCE in the human SPIRIT or MIND while sexual feelings are stimulated with an African beat. And, for PAY.

F. LaGard Smith blames all of the church division on YOUTH MINISTERS. The remedy is to FIRE THEM ALL.

The OLD Restoration Movement would blame ALL problems of the POPISH (stolen from paganism) practice of HIRING ministers to PERVERT the Biblical direct commands. All of church History warns along with Paul with letting the doctors of the Law fired by Jesus get another grasp.

"Give money to make poor pious youths learned clergy, or vain pretenders to erudition; and they pray that they may preach to you; yes, and pay them too. Was there ever such a craft as priestcraft? No, it is the craftiest of all crafts. It is so crafty that it obtains by its craft the means to make craftsmen, and then it makes the deluded support them!" (Campbell, Alexander, Christian Baptist, Dec. 1, 1823, Vol. 1, p. 91).

"Money is of vital consequence in the kingdom of the clergy. Without it a clergyman could not be made, nor a congregation supplied with a 'faithful pastor.' O Mammon, thou wonder-working god!" (Ibid., p. 124).

"'Will you,' said an honest inquirer, 'allow the clergy no salary at all? Will you not allow the poorer class of the clergy a decent little competence?' I replied I have no allowances to make. Let them have what the Lord has allowed them. 'How much is that?' said he, Just nothing at all, said I.
