Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: For some time now, FBCC has occasionally incorporated the use of instrumental music into its Sunday morning assemblies in the form of a solo with an instrumental track or a special event such as a musical.

This has proven to be a unique experience for anyone who has had their faith nurtured in the context of the Churches of Christ which (in regard to most Churches of Christ) have been exclusively a capella in their form of worship.

Well, we suspect that people are not so ignorant: they have all probably had the experience of performance music called "worship" and made a CONSCIOUS DECISION to place their membership AND THEIR MONEY "INVESTMENTS" in a faithful church WITHOUT MUSIC.

Honest evangelists would sign up with a church already dedicated to music and not even minimal honesty would let a Christian non-instrumentalist INFILTRATE, DIVERT AND STEAL the church of an instrumental group.

To suggest that members of the church need a UNIQUE EXPERIENCE is to suggest that people are not honoring Spurgeon's defininition of MINIMAL HONESTY.

The Heglian (Hitler, Machiavelli) method is to GRADUALLY introduce falsehood such as trying to worship a Spirit God by the sexual stimulation of music a little bit at a time. After the building is paid for is time enough to dispense with the old folks. Therefore, when you see the first instrument in a Bible class or youth group you KNOW that Lucifer is using you and you will not know what hit you until you are spiritually dead.

God sent His own RIGHT ARM because there WAS NO MAN who could judge or teach. Jesus is the ONE AND ONLY Master teacher: He is the head of the church. The ONLY persons authorized in the church as SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE are elders and deacons. Elders are not selected or elected but POINTED OUT because "they are already laboring to the point of exhaustion in preaching and teaching."

The only TEXT BOOK for songs and sermos is "that which is written." The duty of the elders as the ONLY LEADERSHIP is to "teach that which HAS BEEN taught" and rebuke those who oppose it in sermons or songs.

The belief of the LEADERSHIP has NO authority unless they can point to that which is written.

This focus on LEADERSHIP was the sin of the NICO or clergy dominating the laity.

The purpose of this presentation is to set forth what the leadership believes the Lord's will to be for the Farmers Branch Church concerning vocal and instrumental musical expression. The intent of this effort is not to test one's relationship with the Lord, or to define a belief system required for membership in this church, or to despise or judge anyone who does not agree with this position.

Acceptance is not conditioned on any particular view of music. The intent is to articulate the leadership's view so that members and especially prospective members may know the church's position on this matter.

This flexibility results from the belief that music, vocal and/or instrumental, is not a "salvation issue", and thus is not one of the core beliefs of this church.

The Lord has expressed His will and we never have to ask: WWJD? Someone is getting the LORD'S WILL by osmosis because the Lord expressed His will about musical enchanting or soothsaying beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation 18.

There has always been a body of believers called the church of Christ and always rejected instrumental music. It is totally distorting to preach that the non-instrumental churches of Christ became a SECTARIAN GROUP about music. It is a fact that neither Baptists, Presbyterians or Methodists used instruments at the time of the Restoration. It was primarily rich post-civil war northern churches who introduced instruments and therefore became SECTARIAN. Rather than build new buildings they found it more convenient to steal the buildings of those who opposed the INNOVATION of adding mechanical devices as "the worship of men'shands."

There was no hint at trying to justify the sowing of discord from the Bible until about 1878.

The entire Bible and church history has believed that using music to silence the Words of Jesus IS A SALVATION ISSUE. Older scholars classed music "as" worship as idolatry.

The RISING UP TO PLAY at Mount Sinai caused God to give Israel the Law of Moses and sentence them to WORSHIP THE STARRY HOST. When they fired God and demanded a human king it was so that they could worship LIKE THE NATIONS.

God promised that the kings would confiscate their lands, flocks and people. The kings would make the boys blow the INSTRUMENTS OF CHARIOTS. When David was made king he did exactly what God had warned them: He as king and the COMMANDERS OF THE ARMY organized the surplus Levitical, warrior sounders of panic to prophesy at the future temple. This was not music or worship but making a great crashing sound.

Churches of Christ have the totality of the Bible and secular history which associates music with PAGANISM and perversion and NEVER with the spiritual worship of God.

All of the musical terms in the Bible are rooted in idolatry or even Satan's devices.

Farmer's Branch: Where Is The Leadership In Regard To This Subject?

The LEADERSHIP has no unique POWER or TEACHING AUTHORITY over the COMMONERS which is not based on the elders chosen to "teach that which HAS been taught and to REFUTE those who repudiate the once-delivered TRUTH."

No SENIOR PREACHER has ANY authority to even be riding the backs of the widows. The elders have no authority which is not given to them by the Word of God. All believers have the DIRECT COMMAND of Paul to TEACH ONE ANOTHER. The resources do not have to be SERMONIZED or VERSIFIED: Jesus preached the sermons and composed the "songs" and the Romans were commanded to:

Glorify God with ONE VOICE using "that which is written."

However, there is a Vineyard, Kansas City and Jubilee breed band of men who BELIEVE that they are latter day apostles or christs with MORE POWER than even Moses or Jesus. This is based on the

Historically Unique View of the Godhead as Three, Separated Beings like kith or kin or a STANDING COMMITTEE. No one in the history of the world has fallen so far from the notion of an INTERNAL TRINITARIAN nature than these people.

John Mark Hicks notes that Max Lucado and Rubel Shelly are the fathers of the god family of THREE members meaning a polytheistic god of three persons. However, God is One and the Spirit's name to Paul was Jesus of Nazareth. Since Paul demands that we SPEAK the words of Christ in place of music, the Spirit of Christ is the WORDS OF CHRIST or "that which is written." Therefore, the LEADERSHIP has no supernatural power to do more than "teach that which has been taught" and to "refute those who teach false doctrine."

By claiming to be Spirit filled, a form of psychological violence is used to convince people that they are agents of God. The fact that every proof-text is distorted and even teaches the sexual, pagan connection is proof that all leaders should stick with the Bible and perhaps send the hirelings packing since "leadership" normally means the hired staff.

We suggest that the LEADERSHIP is probably defined as the dominant pastor. We absolutely are positive that he PERVERTS every quoted passage.

Music is a TOOL to FACILITATE worship or mediating to replace Jesus.

Armageddon is not THE BATTLE OF THE WORLD; it is the battle of words. The LITTLE HILLS will attempt to LIFT THEMSELF UP above the plains to become BIG MOUNTAINS.

Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: The leadership believes that music lifted up in praise to God and His Son is an outpouring from the heart of a person filled with the Holy Spirit.

This offering can be vocal, instrumental or both together.
This conclusion is the result of much prayer and considerable study of the Scriptures on this matter.

Jesus said MY WORDS are Spirit and Life. In the so-called 'singing' passages being filled with the Spirit in Ephesians 5 is to be filled with the WORDS of Christ in Colossians 3.  In Romans 15 this is defined as "that which is written" or "Scripture."  That is the only way to be filled with SPIRIT which is "neuter" and Paul defines it in 1 Cor 2 as THE MIND OF CHRIST.

Singing AND melody are not POURED OUT of the heart: Paul said that both must be IN the heart. Jesus defined spiritual worship as in the PLACE of the human spirit.

The command is not to OFFER something to God: praise singing is the world's oldest, most superstitious paganism known to mankind.  Those totally lost and without assurance try to PAY GOD SOMETHING to keep HIM from failing them--again.

We fear that Lynn will be exalted on high solely because he can attract the masses which got lost during Jubilee 98. However,

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Isaiah 2:11

You cannot exalt the Name of the Lord by crying, "Lord, Lord" in song and sermon. This just insults the Incarnate God Who said:

But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness. Isaiah 5:16

The way to "praise" God and "exalt" Him was clearly prescribed in the Great Commission and predicted by Christ the Spirit in the prophets (1 Peter 1:11):

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10

Only then can we clap our hands in celebration of God's victory -- not ours. The Christian demand is to preach to and convert the heathen and not try to triumph over with song and instrument.

God: Now will I rise, saith the Lord; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself. Isaiah 33:10

The Latter Rains: Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you. Isaiah 33:11

The first issue of Wineskins set the keynote for the new movement to take the name Jesus Christ (Jehovah-Saved) out and replace it with the generic name of God (which ain't a name):

"Wineskins is committed to the stimulation of bold but responsible change in the Church of God." But their commitment is

"not to the church of Christ which started on Pentecost A.D. 33. They say instead, "Our background and commitment is to the Church of Christ that was born of the American Restoration Movement."

One writer warns:

"They are "pious scavengers" who work and sleep neither day nor night as they infiltrate and take over the churches one by one. The church where you meet may already be targeted."

The concept of physical worship is to bow your head in total submission. In a spiritual sense worship means to bow to the Words of Christ which are Spirit and Life. Paul's worship word is to "give heed" to Christ through His Words. Lifting up anything is not a Christian concept. Rather,

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Lu.16:23

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. Lu.18:13

Only if you HAVE holy hands can you lift them up but please not over your head.

The mountain is the sign of "lifting up" in the oppresive religion Jesus died to remove is from the Greek:

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; Mt.4:8

Glory means "honor, praise, worship."

Here is the way to recognize a LITTLE HILL trying to follow Satan's path:

While this may get an expert speaker a job and great glory what he is doing is POURING OUT GOD'S WRATH. Paul said that just before he INSISTED that our "singing" be PREACHING the Word of God.

Don't give way to the Devil sowing his own seed but:

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Eph 4:28

To the Thessalonians Paul made this a LAW for the preachers!

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying (teaching), that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph 4:29

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Eph 4:30

Grieving the Holy Spirit is refusing to SPEAK or TEACH that which has been taught in songs and sermons:

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Eph 4:31

Therefore, preaching what LIFTS OUT of the team's own spirit grieves the Holy Spirit and if tolerated becomes GOD POURING OUT HIS WRATH on those who have no love for the truth.

Paul condemned the SONGS and SERMONS which came out of the person's OWN SPIRIT or mind as "just speaking into the air."

Therefore, all PERFORMANCE preaching or music is a SIGN of God's wrath upon those who believe that they can do a better job than Jesus Who IS the Spirit: Father, Son and Spirit have ONE NAME: Jesus, Joshua which is Jehovah- Saved.

The SPIRIT which rested on Jesus typified as a dove or "carrier pigeon" was the SEVEN SPIRITS all related to teaching KNOWLEDGE about God. My spirit does not make me twins. Spirit is MIND and Paul said that THE HOLY SPIRIT comes in the form of "My words are Spirit and Life."

All pagans BELIEVED that one could appease, threaten and even SEDUCE the gods using PRAISE MUSIC as the oldest known superstition that a priestly class HELPS the gods keep from FAILING.

History shows what common sense demands: If you meet to recite the poems of Robert Frost and DROWN it with vocal and instrumental "wailing" as Amos callled it this would be the worst of insults.


If you even do that and simultaneously play instruments, in the Classics and church Fathers you would be truly LOW CLASS doing something reserved for children and male and female prositutes always USED and then ABUSED.

Paul said that one pours out the WORDS OF CHRIST as Spirit and Truth. The "lifting up in praise" is one of the most ancient pagan superstitions that one can do something for God or the "audience" by playing music. However, the Bible treats music as people treating Him as a Musical Prostitute.

Jesus said: "My WORDS are SPIRIT and LIFE" (John 6:63). In Isaiah 11 the seven "spirits" which would rest upon the BRANCH were related to the knowledge of God. Therefore, no person has a PERSON to pour on others if they ignore the Words of God.

In the falsely-labelled "singing" passages the SPIRIT to be poured out is not what Paul called "madness" or Philo called Enthus O Mania where enthusiasm is not being filled with a HOLY spirit but of the charismatic ecstasy so utterly dependant on music:

These are all TYPES of the Biblical book of Psalms. So says all of early church scholarship. Self-composed hymns were condemned and then outlawed.

Romans 15 was to repudiate the CULTURE of music in Rome. The only solution was to define CHURCH as synagogue or school of the Bible. This outlawed instruments or even music and made the INSPIRED WORD the only way to glorify God rather than the PERFORMERS.

Using a parallel word of the musical idolatry and the PLAYING or SPORTING of Samson is connected to the fact that Samson was forced to GRIND in the king's house. That means, of course, that he was used as a CONCUBINE.

All pagan musical worshipers were proud to be in "the harem of the gods."

Mocking was called "the song of the drunkard" just making fun of someone as they did with Jesus according to Psalm 41.

This quotation disproves the MUSICAL SECTARIAN'S claim that "psallein" demanded the use of a musical instrument. In fact, in ALL cases there is NEVER an instrument indicated by the word sing or psalm unless it is specificially named:

I wonder if there was a vote taken and the present elders and those whose "terms had expired" agreed. Increasingly elders are the board of directors of the pastors who claim superior knowledge and leadership power.

This attempt at justifying instrumental music will prove that leadership is hired as theatrical performers and multiple degrees do no make one a Bible student.

There is no hint in the Bible that God wants the ancient superstition of LIFTING UP PRAISE to Him in a ritualistic way. Rather, real praise means to tell the world abut Jesus rather than diverting the praise to the musicians.

God didn't hear the prayer or He would surely have pointed out one HONEST passage which would define the LEADERSHIP'S conclusion from God knows where.

Psalm 41 prophesied that Judas was attack Jesus with music. The word "triumph over" means to play instruments and "make a joyful noise before the Lord." This WAS NOT WORSHIP but it was the universal WAR CHANT to melt the heart of the enemy as done by Gideon and his select TEAM.

Music in this prophecy was that of David the king and the COMMANDERS OF THE ARMY using music which was ALWAYS an attack upon the enemy even in the courts of animal sacrifice.

After the MUSICAL ATTACK prophesied in Psalm 41, the Dead Sea Scroll translation has Messiah saying:

I will groan with the zither of lamentation
in all grief-stricken mourning and bitter complaint

There are numerous references in the Bible to singing with and the playing of musical instruments in worship to God.

No, that is not a fact. This paper will quote not a single passage relating to congregational singing with instruments. Children, shepherds, camp followers, magicians and prostitutes played music for fun and pleasure. The warrior Levites "under the KING and COMMANDERS OF THE ARMY served the PRIESTS as they slaughtered and burned animals IN THE COURT. The sacrificed animals were a carnal type of LORD JESUS CHRIST.

The noise makers (not musicians) were in the court and not in the Holy Place. The Holy Place even as a carnal type of the church of Christ was off limits to any singer or musician.

As prophesied in Psalm 41, the warrior musicians tipped off by Judas would MOCK Jesus as He was being prepared for the crucifixion.

Here is the almost- universal meaning of what is PERVERTED to be spiritual worship:

Worship in the Old Testament, like the New Testament, literally meant to fall on your face. However, prior to repudiating Israel in the book of Amos, God told them that they should SEEK Him. And David often mediates on his bed with Psalms and SEEKS the Lord in his heart.

Amos delivered God's message to Israel that they should SEEK Him through the Word: that would have been worship of Yahweh Who CANNOT be SEDUCED.

The Israelites worshiped SATURN (666) and the other Babylonian pantheon.

They LOST contact with the WORD and they all went into captivity and death.

A Jew would never simultaneously SING and PLAY. That would have been for them and for the Greeks an insult to the composer. Minstrels who both sang and played were in high demand and SOLOMON had lots of them: the word MUSICIAN and CONCUBINE comes from the same word.

Rather, as made clear in the MOVIES, David would recite (not sing) a stanza and then strum down the strings of a harp which could have as few as 3 strings. Then, he would recite the next stanza. Music as "tunefulness" belongs to the 19th century in religion.

While David lived, the Israelites did not WORSHIP in Jerusalem at the temple. However, David the KING and COMMANDERS of the army USED the warrior Levites in their plans for the temple which David did not build. God promised a FAMILY but David wanted a house to place the God he presumed to have in the Ark of the Covenant.

The musical or noise-making Levites could never go into the Holy Place as a type of the church. Their exclusion from the place of the "candlestick" or Menorah, table of bread and place of offering prayer as the incense was a type of Church.

John in Revelation has God promising to remove CANDLESTICKS from churches. The churches ARE the candlesticks in that their task is not to frazzle nerves with pagan "worship" but to make known the manifold wisdom of God.

Since the "noise making" LEVITES were excluded from the place of the CANDLESTICK they were excluded from the church of Christ.

To bring instruments into the Holy Place makes the musicians worthy of death.

The ONLY conclusion is that God HAS REMOVED the candlesticks for JEZEBEL type churches. Remember that SHE had hundreds of prophesiers where BOWING TO BAAL included GETTING UP on music and involved MAKING SELF VILE with the slave girls as David bragged about.

They "excelling" Levites were the actual SLAVE DRIVERS during the building of Solomon's temple which God allowed to be looted within five years of Solomons' death.

There is NO MUSIC WORD used in the entire Bible in connection with singing as worship. None.

THEY have suddenly surfaced questions about INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC because they are such students of the Bible.

Part of the CHANGE MACHINERY is to tell you that the Bible is filled with positive comments about "singing and playing instruments as an act of worship."

Misstating Paul's statement of fact.

Paul clearly commanded (1) SPEAK to one another (or PREACH) and (2) sing and make melody IN THE HEART. Because singing among the Greeks was purely a SECULAR activity and EXTERNAL MELODY spoke more of attacking someone than music, both the singing and the melody are INTERNAL while the SPEAKING is external.

The immediate as well as the broader context of these verses is very instructive. In the passage Paul identifies three characteristics of a Spirit-filled person:

singing to one another and to the Lord;

This is kinda like quoting Shakesphere and believing that the Bible says it. Paul said NOTHING about singing to one another! Nothing.

Paul used the same word SPEAK that the preacher abrogates to himself. The word is SPEAK OR PREACH one to anothe, the resource is "that which is written." The RESULT is that there is singing and melody IN THE HEART and it is directed to God.

SPEAKING the "seven spirits of Divine Knowledge" is typified by the Menorah in the Holy Place. No musician was allowed in the Holy Place and that is why the Apostolic Constitutions says "throw the performers out." Jesus said that WORSHIP takes place in the Most Holy Place which is our human spirit as it sings and makes melody in the human spirit.

You learn ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BY HEARING IT. This is why filling the pulpits with lecturers guarantees that you have chosen the LEAST EFFECTIVE way of teaching. The "deacons" were to be "filled with the Spirit" and Paul said that this meant "holding the mysteries of the faith with a pure conscience."

Therefore, don't exect a LITTLE PERSON to be with you to make your body move. Jesus said "I" will be with you.

Paul ACTUALLY said SPEAK or PREACH to one another. Then the worship which Jesus limited to IN THE HUMAN SPIRIT would be the internal singing to replace the Greek singing which was ALWAYS SECULAR. The melody was to be INTERNAL because melody or psallo is what you do when you TWANG a bowstring to send a SINGING arrow to grind the enemy's heart into a fine powder. Jesus did that with a related word meanint SOP.

The seven candlesticks or the Menorah represented spiritual LIGHT to the Holy Place which was fulfilled in the church of Christ.

Jesus validated his role as SON by insisting that having the Spirit without measure meant that He would speak ONLY what HE heard from the Father Whom He had "with Him."

Jesus said that the Father DOES NOT EVEN SEEK worship except IN THE SPIRIT. The human spirit is the PLACE of worship opposed to the place of the temple. The human SPIRIT must be devoted to THE TRUTH or it is not worship. YOU cannot facilitate anything but pagan worship for someone else.

Paul said SING to the Lord!

Therefore, to be CHRISTIAN worship, the singing is IN THE HEART and is the RESULT of glorifying God with one voice (Rom 15). Singing is the effect but NOT the act.

Farmer's Branch: giving thanks to God in Jesus' name; being submissive to one another.

You cannot do it IN JESUS'S name unless you have a command from Jesus: all scholars from the beginning insist that church is related to the DIRECT COMMANDS of God. No, churches of Christ did not invent that doctrine. You cannot be submissive if you get up in the Holy Place or church and overpower others with YOUR talent when they would like to DO THEIR OWN WORSHIP.

Defining preachers as LEADERSHIP is the grandest of presumptious RULING OVER the one another flock.

Using the MUSIC word adds something which is not ONCE used by the Old or New Testament related to Spiritual worship.

Music was always a PAGAN practice. The Greek had a word for MUSIC but Paul didn't use it. The word is SUMPHONIA which includes SINGING and INSTRUMENTS and usually includes dancing and drinking wine.

Therefore, the Spirit of Christ is BELITTLED when we assume that He was not smart enough to use SUMPHONIA which is clearly what people LUST FOR in their new WINESKIN worship. Why did he use PSALLO which at that time did not included instruments. In all periods psallo included the HUMAN VOICE as the first instrument of choice. To keep our LEADERSHIP from going beyond redemption Paul emphasized MAKE MELODY IN THE HEART.

Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: Within this framework the music which genuinely speaks to the believer and expresses praise to the Lord is that which issues from a heart filled with the Spirit.

There is absolutely nothing which SPEAKS TO THE BELIEVER which can be used to VALIDATE one's own new revelation. What SPEAKS to the believer is "that which is written, the Spirit or the Words of Christ." If you speak anything else

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Is.8:20

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Rev 19:10

The church is not to OBEY the Law but the task of the church is to TEACH the Old Testament. Without that we have no foundation to even believe that there is a God Who was prophecied.

Praise is not saying: "Lord, Lord" or "Yah, Yah" or "Hallelujah, Hallelujah" because that will be the MARK that God doesn't even know your name. Praise is telling the world the story of God's mighty deeds by using "that which is written" without "private interpretation" or "further expounding."

Pulpit and musical performance is SOARING up into the mountains or lifting SELF UP. If they had any remote interest in lifting up Jesus they would speak His sermons and sing His songs.

Musical instruments were compared to Paul with SPEAKING IN TONGUES because instruments HAVE NO BREATH and cannot praise God. If instruments artificially PUMP YOU UP to make you believe that it is Jesus you are praising, then when the music dies the praise is gone.

Paul called musical instruments "lifeless instruments" or "carnal weapons." We don't do battle with supernatural powers by using a SOULLESS machine often made of animals "which died of themselves" and had to be abraded or PSALLOED into bits to make instruments or FAMILIAR SPIRITS out of old wineskins.

The ONLY thing which can issue from a heart filled with the SPIRIT is the Word of the Spirit. And the only way to Glorify God is to speak HIS words because "your thoughts are not His thoughts."

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,

Produces grace in the heart: that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. Rom 15:4

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: Rom 15:5

That ye may with one mind (spirit, heart) and one mouth

glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom 15:6

As "son" Jesus spoke only what He heard from the "father." If we do not speak what we have heard from the SON then we ARE NOT SONS of God. We are simply praising ourselves because all idolatry is the worship of self.

Paul identified music as "speaking in tongues." Everyone has always know that music and drama are one or two steps removed from the truth. Paul said SPEAK to ONE ANOTHER using Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual songs which the Septuagint identifies as forms of the BOOK of Psalms. The command SPEAK is the same as PREACH. Music CANNOT SPEAK.

What the LEADERSHIP is speaking of is the SEXUAL STIMULATION created by music calculated to vibrate ever nerve ending in the body. SPEAKING is addressed to the Ears and Heart: music is addressed to the sexual nerve endings.

This form of SENSUAL STIMULATION is NOT Christian but Anti-Christian.

God never commanded PRAISE SINGING. This was one of the oldest superstitions that you could feed, clothe, house, sexually stimulate or appeas the 'gods' in order for YOU to get GOODIES from the gods.

Of singing or "speaking to one another":

"In English, unfortunately, the distinction is not sharp, and the word singing is frequently employed to refer to the sacred activity of chanting.

the first is related to the earthly realm,

"Ephesians 5:19 enjoins:

(1) Speaking TO ONE ANOTHER in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs;
----- (2) singing (adontes) and making melody (psallontes, psalming)
----- with your heart TO THE LORD.

One is done with voice and lips,
----- the other with the heart.

God's plan is that GOD speak to the worshipers NOT with music but with HIS WORDS. There is no SPIRIT or truth or WORD OF CHRIST which does not condemn music: therefore, you cannot DO Instrumental music and still be FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST.

Music has been called "low level glossolalia" or speaking in tongues. You have to translate many of the human hymns which in the beginning of the Restoration Movement were called IDOLS. They are IDOLS because they replace the WORDS OF JESUS as Spirit and Life. Musicians are IDOLS because it is impossible to GIVE HEED to God while giving heed to musical performance.

There is no PRAISE SINGING in the church as there WAS NO PRAISE SINGING in Temple or Synagogue. See Edersheim for the Temple

The PRAISE word often used in Jewish lostness IS THE HEBREW:

Halal (h1984) haw-lal'; a prim. root; to be clear (orig. of sound, but usually of color); to shine; hence to make a show, to boast; and thus to be (clamorously) foolish; to rave; causat. to celebrate; also to stultify: - (make) boast (self), celebrate, commend, (deal, make), fool (- ish, -ly), glory, give [light], be (make, feign self) mad (against), give in marriage, [sing, be worthy of] praise, rage, renowned, shine.

The word LUCIFER (Modern ZOE) HAS THE SAME MEANING. And Lucifer or the Nachash was the musical enchanter in the garden of Eden.

A similar Hebrew word can be translated as "play the flute, pollute or prostitute."

First: The Israelites had been sentenced to WORSHIP THE STARRY HOST because of their musical idolatry at Mount Sinai. Because they did not repent but demanded a king so that they could rule and WORSHIP like the nations or pagan Goyim, God abandoned them. Therefore, David was often trying to AWAKEN God.

"The triumphal hymn of Moses had unquestionably a religious character about it; but the employment of music in religious services, though idolatrous, is more distinctly marked in the festivities which attended the erection of the golden calf." (Smith's Bible Dictionary, Music, p. 589).

Second: David's naked RISING UP TO PLAY in moving the ark had him agreeing that he would be held in honor by the SLAVE GIRLS who often did the naked music. He said that he would make himself EVEN MORE VILE. If you take DAVID as your musical mediator you had better strip off your clothes and do the choral dance which was called "bowing the knee to Baal" because Baal would be worshiped more in Jerusalem than Jehovah.

Third, PRAISE SINGING is one of the most ancient pagan superstitions that you can AID THE GODS to keep them from failing. Praise singing has the towers of Babylon as its mother.

Fourth, There is no clue in the Bible that Jesus wants artificial PRAISE SINGING RITUALS: in fact, his warning against "Lord, Lord" sayers as "prophesiers" directly repudiate musical singers trying to flatter or SEDUCE Him as they did in all paganism.


Sixth, there was no PRAISE SERVICE in the early historical church. They obeyed Paul and spoke the INSPIRED POETRY which were God's Songs.

Seventh, when MUSICAL PRECENTORS were added to the Catholic church this is identified as "the first heresy largely pervading the church."

The Catholic church models both its priesthood and its clergy singers after the LEVITICAL order.

The HUMAN HEART is NOT the SOURCE of inspiration.

Paul asked the people singing or preaching out of their "own spirit" whether truth originated with them. It did not. If they needed further instructions then Paul would write them.

The earthen vessel is God's storage place for HIS WORDS so that they can last for thousands of years. If we pour out anything other than "that which is written, the Spirit or the Word of Christ" we are just pouring out old stump water.

God put the Word of God in earthen vessels to protect it. For instance, a copy of Isaiah from before the time of Christ was put into an earthen vessel and discovered in about 1945 in the Dead Sea Caves. This discovery proved that our texts were faithful copies. The copiest made a new copy and counted letters forward and backward. Therefore, the FAITHFUL SCRIPE as the faith PREACHER will not knowingly rewrite the Bible.

Nor, will any sane person believe or teach that he or she is a latter day apostle and that God speaks to them. You need to watch your back when around these people. By putting deeds to property into earthen vessels

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days. Je.32:14

For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land. Jeremiah 32:15

By definition, a Christian is a disciple of the WORDS of Christ. If burried them 2 thousand years ago and we dug them up then we could become a Christian without a preacher.

If we were taken to another planet and the earth left uninhabited for ten housand years, and some of us came back, we could open the earthen vessels which is about all that would survive and practice the Christian religion. If pseudo-preachers propose to rewrite the Scripture to invalidate 2,000 of testimony about "music" as idolatry then he is not working for the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes the best place for God to HIDE His words, as in the parables of Jesus, is to leave them in plain sight:

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 2 Cor 4:3

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Cor 4:4

Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see. Isaiah 42:18

Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lords servant? Isaiah 42:19

Who in all the world is as blind as my own people,

who are designed to be my messengers of truth? Who is so blind as my "dedicated one," the "servant of the Lord"? Isaiah 42:19LIV

Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. Isaiah 42:20

The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness sake;

he will magnify the law, and make it honourable. Isaiah 42:21

The way to DEFEAT Jesus Christ is to presumptiously present the preacher's OWN views. The burden Jesus died to remove was "spiritual anxiety created by religious ritual." And we saw that the WRATH of God is revealed when the WORD of God is perverted:

Therefore, Paul insisted that:

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake. 2 Cor 4:5

Paul NEVER called himself the LEADERSHIP or Senior Preacher or Executive Minister: how arrogant!

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts,

to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 4:6

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. 2 Cor 4:7

An earthen vessel is the word OSTRAKINOS which is the source of ostracon. These were the old broken pottery upon which some of Scripture was recorded.


Aarrgh! It just doesn't matter!

Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: Consequently, the presence (or absence) of a musical instrument is not primary, but the expression of a Spirit-activated heart is.

Paul took the preaching out of the hands of the professional and made it a "one another" activity. By obeying the direct commands of Jesus we can TEACH that which is written. But, assume that the preacher is delivering his little fill in the blanks thingy. Suddenly, the Bible Lovers jump up, strike up the band and ENTUSE or go charismatic all over the "theater for holy entertainment." The PRAISE LEADERS would say (will soon say), your preaching IS NOT PRIMARY. Surely you can preach while we ENTHUSE or EXHILARATE the crowd.

What if Jesus Christ is the ONLY TEACHER teaching through His Words? Are they primary or can a Rock Band do their voodoo while HE is teaching. Absolutely the preacher would say that it is just a matter of "mental attitude."

Paul's direct command was to TEACH OR PREACH: that eleminates instruments.

The SPIRIT was "that which was written" or "the words of Christ" because the prophetic writers were moved by THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST (1 Pet. 1:11_

Instruments among the classics always said: male or female prostitute. "Singer" or "player" always said "prostitute" right there in the temple.

See that the Temple in Jerusalem was "like the nations" leading people into Babylonian captivity. See also the universal connection between singers, players and prostitutes.

The beginning time and the end time Babylon Harlot religion will look like this:

"Each of the important deities had, in one or more of the Babylonian cities, a large temple in which he or she was worshiped.

Temple services were generally conducted in open courts containing fountains for ablution and altars for sacrifices.

Only the high priest and other privileged members of the clergy and court were permitted to enter the cella, or inner part of the temple,

which held the special statue of the deity. The needs of the deity were provided for in accordance with impressive ceremonies carried out by a vast institutionalized clergy that included

But why is the end time Babylon Harlot worship worse than the vilest of pagan temples by allowing the musicians and singers into the Holy Place or Chrurch. I'd pack my bags.

Instruments were so connected with warefare or perverted pagan religion that the word PSALLO was discontinued as an expression of internal melody.

Instruments in the Holy Place as the carnal type of the church of Christ would have gotten a Levitical sounders whos "service" is related to the word ABADDON killed.

Instruments among the Babylon Harlot worship in Revelation get RETURNED would go back into hell and were associated with the SORCERIES by which the NATIONS were deceived.

Instruments were called by Luther the MARK of Baal. Saturn as Lord has the number 666.

Well, that is what has always SOWED DISCORD AMONG BRETHEREN and offended thousands of these little ones, isn't it. Seems like the debate is OVER.

The WORDS of Christ according to John 6:63 and Paul three places is the SOURCE of the Spirit.

MUSIC is considered EVIL throughout the Bible because it is the INSTRUMENT used by the false Doctors of the Law to 'TAKE AWAY THE KEY TO KNOWLEDGE.' The preachers must know that you CANNOT give heed to the WORDS OF CHRIST and the PERFORMERS at the same time.

Therefore the appeal for instrumental noise is to take away the key to knowledge so that the FLOCK can be fed to the lions.

The only WORSHIP WORD Paul saw as important was to GIVE HEED to Christ by GIVING HEED to His Words. If an instrument is present it is attached to a talented performer. This makes instrumental performance the MOST WORKS INTENSIVE ACTIVITY you could do in trying to earn God's approval.

Therefore, the only ACTIVATOR is the musical performer and he/she is being USED to attract NUMBERS and there is no call to claim that it is an "expression of a Spirit-activated heart." It is not, it cannot be.

Satan (Lucifer, ZOE) who was a musical enchanter who WHOLLY seduced Eve asked the fatal question: "Hath God said"? Yes, God has said over and over that MUSIC tells God to get lost, or we will not listen to YOUR Words as SPIRIT and LIFE. Of the king of Tyre as a model of Lucifer:

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Eze.28:13

She is ZOE among the professional musician's effort to DEFEAT the church.

But, Paul wasn't even speaking about CHURCH.

The old Christian church argument is that "you don't have a command for assembly" and "we don't have a command for instruments" so we are both equally ok.

However, to argue that Paul is not defining the collective assembly in the three primary "singing" passages is to risk one's credibility.

Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: As a further observation, the setting (i. e., an assembly or 'worship service') is not a factor governing the means by which music is rendered. With respect to the broader context of this section of Ephesians, Paul is clearly discussing our Christian walk and our relationships with one another. An assembly is irrelevant.

These matters including music are appropriate in all settings.

Contextually, there is no differentiation in the unassembled and assembled church-

Jesus said to make DISCIPLES and teach them what HE commanded to be taught. Christians are disciples and attend Bible Class. Paul's ONLY worship concepts meant to give attention to Reading the Word of God.

There is no such thing as an unassembled church. "Churching" or "synagoguing" does not speak of a building with a resident rabbi or doctor of the law. Paul clearly speaks of the ASSEMBLED church for TEACHING one another. If you TEACH a Bible class in a local restaurant there still is no rule of SANITY which would allow you to play the guitar while Jesus Christ is teaching through His Word.

Therefore, the preacher is using his assumptions as proof text. However, it would be inappropriate to play instruments when two or three are gathered together because the SYNAGOGUE function is to GIVE HEED to the Words of Christ.

Therefore, there is no authority for the teens to "worship" in a separate wing of the church with instruments just because their little brains have been PERMANENTLY DAMAGED by music all week long.

With no authority to play music in any TEACHING assembly, there assuredly is no authority to USE music and musicians to stimulate sexual ecstasy on the official meeting on Sunday Morning.

The Old Testament is absolute: if you use music you are telling God to go away, we will NOT listen to your words. That needs no proving in the modern pseudo-church struggling to be a Tower of Babylon.

What the preachers don't know is that the word ecclesia speaks of an assembly. However, sunago or another form of the word for synagogue speaks of the people WHO GATHER or ASSEMBLE as the church.

When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 1 Cor 5:4

Sunago (g4863) soon-ag'-o; from 4862 and 71; to lead together, i.e. collect or convene; spec. to entertain (hospitably): - / accompany, assemble (selves, together), bestow, come together, gather (selves together, up, together), lead into, resort, take in.

So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle: Ac.15:30

God outlawed the "instruments and making a joyful noise before the Lord" when the people GATHERED or assembled. The only occasion for the entire "congregation" to assemble was for INSTRUCTIONS. Therefore, Numbers 10:7 says "don't do it."

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. Ac.20:7

Sunerchomai (g4905) soon-er'-khom-ahee; from 4862 and 2064; to convene, depart in company with, associate with, or (spec.) cohabit (conjugally): - accompany, assemble (with), come (together), come (company, go) with, resort.

Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. 1Co.11:17

When people assemble Paul uses a form of the word SYNAGOGUE. The only place people engaged in corporate teaching of one another was primarily in the church assembly as a SCHOOL OF THE BIBLE.

However, there are numerous parallels to Ephesians 5 where, for instance, Paul spoke of discord in Romans 14 and told them how everyone could meet together peaceably if the "spoke with one voice that which is written."

It was unthinkable that CHRISTIANS would engage in the singing and playing instruments of the theater or "out of church" meetings. Therefore, he could never approve both which were JOBS for the male and female prostitutes "in church." See Clement of Alexandria speaking for ALL literate scholars.

Only the LATTER DAY 13th APOSTLES HAVE DECIDED "IT JUST DON'T MATTER." This gives THEM the authority to use ABSOLUTELY ZERO AUTHORITY to overpower the 100% authority associating singers and instrument players in a religious sense as pagan, idolatrous prostitutes.

What's ok OUTSIDE is ok INSIDE

Chris Seidman and Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: what is musically appropriate for the disciple unassembled is appropriate for the disciples assembled.

Sexuality and music were toni twins in all pagan worship rituals. Sexuality is appropriate at home but not assembled.

Music was appropriate OUTSIDE the type of the church during animal sacrifices;

music was inappropriate in the Holy Place or type of church.

Music was appropriate when creating panic in the enemy seen as Beliar;

music was inappropriate when the same LEVITICAL MUSICIANS turned their instruments upon Jesus.

Music is ok for those not already brain damaged during the day.

Music is not ok when I am trying to sleep.

If the purpose of unassembled music is to entertain one another it doesn't matter. However, Paul instructed the churches to synagogue or assemble to TEACH ONE ANOTHER. Music in the home is appropriate but music while Jesus is our ONE AND ONLY Teacher is not appropriate.

See How Clement of Alexandria limits music even OUTSIDE church:

They who sing thus, and sing in response, are those who before hymned immortality, -- found at last wicked and wickedly singing this most pernicious palinode, 'Let us eat and drink, for tommorrow we die.' But not tommorrow in truth, but already, are these dead to God; burrying their dead, that is, sinking themselves down to death.

The appostle firmly assails them: 'Be not deceived; neither adulterers,nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers... shall inherit the kingdom of God." (Clement, Instructor III.Xi.80,4, The Ante-Nicene Fathers, p. 290)

Look at all of the evidence: the only support you will find is that of the perverted pagans.

Paul clearly speaks of teaching one another with the TRUTH OF CHRIST whether it is two or two thousand. Paul lays the foundation. Remember that Ephesians 5:19 has a CONTEXT:

If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: Eph 4:21

And we have the TRUTH taught by CHRIST that SPIRIT in these contexts is not a little man but the WORDS of Christ the Son which He heard from the FATHER;

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

The context of Ephesus is the Dionysic worship also considered in Romans 15 where wine and music went together:

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; Eph 4:22

Lust is the CARNAL lust for "that which is forbidden." One seems superior like the musician Satan if they can prove to the watching world that THEIR songs and sermons are supperior to Christ's songs and sermons.

The old LUSTS of pagan worship in Ephesus was wine, women, song and musical instruments. The instruments brought on "prophesying" which the performers SOLD as the gods speaking through their tongues.

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Eph 4:23

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Eph 4:24

Jesus said that "worship" is only in the spirit or human mind devoted to the Word as the Spirit of Truth. You cannot RENEW your mind or spirit while playing music which ONLY produces the impulses of "fight, flight or sexuality" and the preachers KNOW it.

Paul is speaking of the church as members one of another and not a church Hee Haw! The charismatic oracle spoke gibberish, the interpreter wrote a hymn and the priest answered questions. Therefore, all of the Ephesian pagans used music to dissociate the minds from their money. Their musical prophesying was LYING just as Jesus defined the Devil as a liar because "he speaks on his own." Just makes up songs and sermons.

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Ep.4:25

Jesus added baptized believers to the kingdom or body of Christ. The church consists of members of that one body. Therefore, Paul is speaking of the assembly. He outlaws machines for this assembly. Therefore, the LEADERSHIP is flat wrong and IT DOES MATTER or Jesus would not have "tossed out 'more or less violently' the musical worship or mourning team."

It DOES matter or Psalm 41 would not have prophesied that the clergy would ATTACH Jesus and silence His Word musically.

Fool the Fools with SCHOLARSHIP.

David Lipscomb said that prior to AD 1878 NO ONE had used the word PSALLO to defend the use of instruments as the works of human hands.

Not even Greeks who could have and might have known John ever thought of Paul as authorizing instrumental or any kind of music as spiritual worship. In fact, music was always associated with training men for warfare after which only the effeminate occupied themselves with playing instruments.

Chris Seidman and The second area of interest centers on the meaning and usage of the Greek words for make music and psalms. In order to avoid a lengthy discussion with considerable linguistic jargon and technical terminology only a few summary statements are offered.

> The word "make music" is exclusively applied to the secular parties with wine, dancing, singing and playing instruments.

And "musician" is exclusively applied to the MUSES or the 9 Sister Singers wo worked for Apollo who is Abaddon or Apollyon or Lucifer or Zoe or Satan. Apollo had his SEEKER CENTER at Delphi and he is the father of "musical harmony, twanging bowstrings to send a singing arrow into your heart, thieves and liars.

Lexicons do not DEFINE words: they show how the word is used.   "Plucking the lyre" examples--collected by Tom Burgess--speak of men plucking the harp to seduce a young male.

The literature ALWAYS uses compound word to define playing a harp.

A. Psalmoi toxôn does not mean "sing and play a harp" WITH a bow.  Psalmoi just means pluck or twang a bow.

All Greek was SECULAR GREEK. God revealed His word to the COMMON PEOPLE who heard him gladly and thereby enforced the blindness and deafness of the "doctors of the Law" who took away the key to knowledge. The ATTIC Greek included plucking a harp string but the KOINE for the common people had eleminated it because it was UNIVERSALLY associated with driving the enemy into panic or the musical male and female prostitutes.

The word PSALLO is not a musical term. One "plucks" a bowstring and makes a "singing noise." Or one yanks out a hair from an enemy's head and it "twangs." Or, most often in the Hebrew, one TOUCHES or mishandles someone in a sexual way. Now, when one twangs a harp he TOUCHES it or GRINDS the sounding board into bits. But, Paul NEVER used a musical word.

The PROOF TEXTS for using PSALLO are all derived from texts where older males PLUCKED the harp string to PLUCK a "youth minister of the gods" in pederasty. The boy's pubic hair would have been PLUCKED: there is no other evidence.

"Make music" is a deliberate distortion of the NIV because the Greek has ANOTHER word for MAKING MUSIC. The NIV does not translate "make music" in the other 4 passages because it may know that these passages were CLEARLY speaking of EXTERNAL melody. The word MUSIC among the Greeks almost always included singing, dancing, clapping, playing instruments and getting drunk on wine:

Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. Lu.15:25

The MUSICAL word which the Holy Spirit could have uses is:

Sumphonia (g4858) soom-fo-nee'-ah; from 4859; unison of sound ("symphony"), i.e. a concert of instruments (harmonious note): - music.

There you have your PROOF for instrumental music as a symphony or concert.

The MUSICIANS in the book of Revelation speaks of the 9 MUSES. The muses were the goddesses who served at Apollo's Oracle of Delphi which was SATAN'S Seeker Center. Apollo as evil could turn himself into an "angel of light" and innocence such as a dolphin to seduce sailors into being MINISTERS.

A Homeric hymn to Apollo perhaps used by Rubel Shelly who bills his TEAM as able to "lead you into the presence of God."

(ll. 182-206) Leto's all-glorious son goes to rocky Pytho, playing upon his hollow lyre, clad in divine, perfumed garments; and at the touch of the golden key his lyre sings sweet.

Thence, swift as thought, he speeds from earth to Olympus, to the house of Zeus, to join the gathering of the other gods:

then straightway the undying gods think only of the lyre and song, and all the Muses together, voice sweetly answering voice,

hymn the unending gifts the gods enjoy and the sufferings of men,

all that they endure at the hands of the deathless gods,
and how they live
witless and helpless and
cannot find healing for death or defence against old age.

Psallo means to "abrade the enemy into a fine powder" just as Jesus did for Judas. Musical harmony HURTS. Jesus FIRED those who "create spiritual anxiety with religious ritual." The musicians are hurting your flesh and soul just to get you to, as always boasted about in the ancient world and by Carol Wimber, go orgasmatic.

The universal meaning of music devoted to the "gods" is that the gods who were almost totally if not totally HOMOSEXUAL and as with Jezebel taught that sodomy bound the spirit and flesh together.

If Jesus or Jehovah- Saved is ANY DIFFERENT then WHY would He approve music as Christian worship? Total, absolute insanity!

Alexander the Oracle Monger illustrates the Oracle of Delphi who worshiped Apollo (Abaddon or Apollyon) with music in order to COLLECT MONEY for pretend songs and sermons just FABRICATED out of the charismatic gibberish by the woman sitting over the gas fissure which even made goats "speak in tongues."

Alexander, on the other hand, preferred his native place, urging very truly that an enterprise like theirs required congenial soil to give it a start,

A drop of black ink in a glass of white milk requires lots of effort to remove. Therefore, we have broken this review of FARMER'S BRANCH JUSTIFICATION for instrumental music into two parts.

NOT ONE PART of the PROOF TEXT fails to repudiate the Word of God which 100% of the time condemns instrumental music because it is a mind control device reserved for the warrior Levitical Musicians.

The Temple NOISE MAKERS were hiding the horrors of animal sacrifice and the burning of animals. In order to transition to a pagan temple to a spiritual temple the same LEVITICAL MOCKERS tried to defeat Jesus Christ whose sacrifice replaced that of bulls and goats.

The word psallo NEVER at any time or place in history meant to "play an instrument" unless the instrument is named.  The word  means to smite or strike with the fingers and NEVER with a plectrum; you cannot psallo with a guitar pick, a piano or flute.

Delitzsch, Psalms: The word "psalm", which is derived from the Greek word psalmos, is a translation of the Hebrew term mizmor, which is the title standing at the head of fifty-seven of the psalms. Thus it is evident that not every psalm has the superscription "psalm". But it is this word which has come to be the designation of the whole book.

"The name of psaltery entered Christian literature in the 3rd century B.C. translation of the Old Testament called the Septuagint where, in the Psalms, nebel was translated psalterion. Thus, Nebuchadnezzar's idolatrous ensemble included the Aramic psantria. The translators used these words because they had meaning when plucking a bow to send forth a literal arrow or to pluck a lyre to send forth a love arrow.
Psalmos also appears in the LXX as equivalent to the Hebrew word neginah [5058]. This Hebrew term is used to describe a wide variety of songs. Neginah is translated by psalmos in Lam 3:14 (song), in Lam 5:14 (music) and in Ps 69:12 (song). It is striking to observe that in the LXX translation of Lam 3:14 and Ps 69:12, psalmos, or its verbal form, is used for songs that are not only uninspired but are in fact the product of the wicked, even drunkards, who mocked God and His word. The Hebrew term neginah is used elsewhere in the Hebrew Scriptures of: the songs of the wicked, Job 30:9 (song); the inspired praise of God, Psalm 61 title (Neginah-a song performed on a stringed instrument); and the uninspired praisd of the Lord composed by King Hezekiah, Is 38:20 (my songs).

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: In the New Testament "psallo" means to make music in praise or to sing praise to God and is translated make music. The word "psalmos" means song and is translated psalm referring almost certainly to the Old Testament Psalms. These words may imply singing with instrumental accompaniment but do not demand it.

NO! Psallo never meant make music: the Ephesians and Colossians were afflicted with the meetings where men got "fluted down with wine" Paul always contrast that with "meditation IN the heart" because God only seeks our worship IN OUR SPIRIT.

Because in all of the parallel passages which commands that we speak that which is written for our learning, and only Corinth and Colosse had pagan problems, Paul as he often did uses antithetical parallelism to make sure that they did NOT pluck harp strings.


Paul used antithetical parallelism to denounce outward singing or instrumental noise.

II. Antithetical Parallelism--The thought of the first line is expressed by an antithesis in the second;
or is counterbalanced by a contrast in the second. This parallelism is very common in the Book of Proverbs:

(a) The tongue of the wise adorneth knowledge,
{but} The mouth of the fool blurteth out folly.

Prov., xv, 2.
(b) Soundness of heart is the life of the flesh,
{but} Envy is the rot of the bones.
--Proverbs 14:30.

The thoughts of the righteous are right,

Notice Pauls use of parallelism: The word SPEAK is the opposite of POETRY or MUSIC. Therefore,

Eph. 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise,
        BUT understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Eph. 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
        BUT [instead] be filled with the Spirit;

Eph. 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
        {BUT} singing and making melody IN your HEART to the Lord;

SPEAKING that which is written for our learning is the thesis: aeido and psallo is the antithes as the root definition would be clear to the Ephesians. Psallo has has the same root meaning as SOP which was fed to Judas to cause SATAN to enter into him.

The word inserted in Ephesias 5 can best be understood by the universal command to SPEAK the word of God and then MEDITATE in the heart:

Psallo never means "melody" in any Greek literature. Disciples hear the WORD and then MEDITATE on it as the only way to learn or put the Biblical text in the long term memory.
The word is commonly used in the Greek text meaning to "make the heart strings sing" or in the perverted sense "to shoot forth hymns or love arrows." The mark of the GODDESSES or muses (adulterers) was that they could hurt you and condemn you by shooting you with an arrow.

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: The conclusion resulting from this study of word meanings is that musical instruments are not denied or demanded in singing praise to the Lord.

There is no direct command to sing anywhere in the Bible: the command is to SPEAK which is defined as the opposite of poetry or music because everyone knew that rhetoricians, singers and musicians lied and were not permitted to write the truth or perform in decent society.

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: The facts of this study inevitably beg the question: if the Holy Spirit, speaking through Paul, intended to prohibit musical instruments in praise to the Lord, why did He use words which were so commonly associated with them?

In Ephesians 4 Paul says that godly, gifted leaders (no singers) were to GUARD you against cunninng craftsmen or sophists.

Farmer's Branch: The mention of these words would undoubtedly conjure up thoughts of musical instruments in the recipients of Paul's first century letter to the Ephesians.

Therefore, the first century Christians (writers and readers alike) would almost certainly have had no problem with singing to instrumental accompaniment based on Biblical words and their usage.

But, they all did: By simply understanding the MEANING OF WORDS there is no historic scholar who did not radically condem any kind of music in the assembly.  In fact since the commanded resources are the Prophets and Apostles, and the people were faithful to speak the Bible-only and because NO BIBLE is metrical and you could not sing it if your life depended on it.

The Catholics never used the organ to accompany singing.
The Reformers could not perform "congregational singing" until they radically rewrote some psalms (only) to be sung in unison (only).

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: Old And New Testament Continuity

The third area of interest is Old and New Testament continuity. As was mentioned earlier,

singing with instrumental accompaniment is frequently observed in the Old Testament, particularly in the Psalms.

There is not a single instance of the godly people gathering for congregational singing with instrumental backup. When they sang TO the harp they plucked a string and matched their voice to the sound: they did not sing and pick a tune because melody was not known

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: In the New Testament, the Book of Revelation, 5:8-9; 14:2-3; 15:2-3, unabashedly describes singing with musical instruments (harps).
Since the Old Testament was the "Bible" of the first century Christians,

they saw no conflict between the Old Testament and the New Testament writings as they became available, and certainly would have had no inclination to understand music differently.

Christ defined the future REST in great detail: He told us not to spend our money on the free Word and in Isaiah 58 commanded us NOT to seek our own pleasure or SPEAK OUR OWN WORDS. Paul commanded the same thing in Romans 15.

Decent people didn't make instrumental noise when they were "singing" (yelling, screeching) or reciting a poets work.  There is no congregational singing in the New Testament and it was OUTLAWED for the synagogue or Church of Christ in the wilderness.  The common people attended synagogue and were not permitted in the innercourt where the Levites made exorcism noises while the priests slaughtered innocent animals which God did not command.

Farmer's Branch Church of Christ: They could vocally praise the Lord in Psalm 148 (Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah) and Psalm 150 (Praise Jehovah with trumpet, harp, lyre, ---) with all their heart, soul and spirit and feel no conflict in the two.

In Mount Sinai 101a we learned that God turned the people or Civil-Military-Priestly class over to worship the starry host while He protected His Godly children by restricting them to their local synagogue to READ the Word and REST from the worship promoters.  #148 is NOT a psalm but a halal meaning to "boast, make a fool of yourself, pretend that you are mad" this certainly intimidated the warriors.
Psalms 148:1 halal ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.
Psalms 148:2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.
Psalms 148:3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Psalms 148:4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
Psalms 148:5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
Psalms 148:6 He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.
Psalms 148:7 Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

This could have been sung in Babylon and is similar to clay tablets.

Chris Seidman: The presence of musical instruments in the worship of God throughout the Old Testament

The only people who "worshipped" fell on their face. And the praise word is a military practice because the Levites we

REVELATION: John defines the end time revival of the Babylon Mother of Harlots. She uses lusted after "fruits" (same as Amos) as slick speakers, singers and instrument players: John called them sorcerers and grouped them with "dogs" or catamites and said that they will or have beeen cast alive into the lake of fire.

Christ in Isaiah 30 prophesied this: the marks in sight and sound of God casting His enemies into "hell" will be wind, string and percussion instruments.

Farmer's Branch: Can one, in light of the totality of the Scriptures, say that God is displeased with the incorporation of musical instruments in the worship of Him if they are mentioned throughout the Old Testament and are present in John's description of heaven throughout Revelation?

From the garden of Eden which Christ says was attacked by "Lucifer the singing and harp playing prostitute" to the Babylon Mother of harlots in Revelation 17 the Bible is FILLED with the Prophetic associating instrumental music with Satan and the mark of a fall beyond redemption. The fall from Grace at Mount Sinai was caused by the musical idolatry of the Egyptian (etal) trinity under the golden calf.

Isaiah 23:15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
Isaiah 23:16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

If you read Acts 7 you will hear Stephen repudiating the whole sacrificial system and agreeing with Amos that the fatal fall from grace at Mount Sinai was musical idolatry.

Perhaps this is the religious and secular rulers giving up their thrones and rules.  For certain you cannot play the harps while falling down.  The spiritual concept of HOLDING your harps is to APPREHEND the Word of God: Every mention of praising God with instruments follows up in the rest of the chapter presenting the ANTITHESIS which is to teach the WORD (only) as it is WRITTEN (only).  In Revelation 5 the word BEAST is Theiron which is a two-legged beast: It includes "A new style of singing or drama" so we know the MARK of the Beast which implicates the well recognized persona of "praise singers."


Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken the book,
FOUR BEASTS and four and twenty ELDERS
         fell down before the Lamb,
         having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours,
                which are the prayers of saints.

When Jesus and the apostles HYMNED a hymn both hymn and the Latin "dico"means to SPEAK or recite: none of the Bible is metrical so you cannot sing it in four part Seidman.

Scripture DEFINES the hymn:

Revelation 5:9-10 And they sung a new song,
        "Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof:
         for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood
        out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
        And hast made us unto our God kings and priests:
        and we shall reign on the earth.

Revelation 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of MANY ANGELS
        round about the throne and the beasts and the elders:
        and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand,
        and thousands of thousands;
Revelation 5:12
SAYING with a loud voice,
"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches,
        and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

CLASS NUMBER THREE for the living
Revelation 5:13 And EVERY CREATURE which is in heaven, and on the earth,
        and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them,
        heard I
                "Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power,
                be unto him that sitteth upon the throne,
                and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. "
REVELATION 14 the same warning of judgment:

AND I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Fathers name written in their foreheads. Rev 14:1

What they heard was from heaven--in the atmosphere over Zion.

And I heard a voice from heaven the sound of many waters and the sound of loud thunder; the voice I heard was the sound of harpers playing on their harps Revelation 14:2RSV

However, the LITERAL sounds in Revelation 18 John calls "sorcerers."  The "heaven" are terms used in paganism and the role of Christ is to replace them:

Therefore, rather than worship the creature and the heavens, we are commanded worship God Who MADE all of these things:

Rev. 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
        having the everlasting gospel to preach unto
them that dwell on the earth,
        and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
Rev. 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him;
        for the hour of his judgment is come:
        and worship him that MADE heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev. 14:8 And there followed another angel,
        saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city,
        because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
